The National Ocean Technology Center (NOTC)

The National Ocean Technology Center (NOTC), The National Ocean Technology Center (NOTC), the former was institute of ocean technology founded in 1965, directly administrated by the State Ocean Administration (SOA), is a public institute. The main functions and basic tasks of NOTC are to take management for national ocean technology; offer technical guarantee and support for national oceanic plan, administration, capability construction and public service. It is also responsible for the research and development of high and new ocean technology in China, as well as basic and general technology. It has a high quality team of technical research and development in marine monitoring and equipped with high level of standard laboratories. NOTC has formed over ten technical directions, such as: hydrological and meteorological monitoring, remote sensing, ecological environment monitoring, hydrological monitoring, buoys system, , system integration, ship deck equipment, ocean energy development and utilization, ocean development strategy study and oceanic economy evaluation, etc. Over the years, NOTC has undertaken and completed many significant projects, including National “863” Hi-Tech R&D Program, National Key S&T Task, and Operational Capability Constructions for the SOA and Navy.   • Thirteenth meeting of Informal Consultative Process (ICP)

    On May 29th to June 1st, 2012, deputy director Xia Dengwen participated in the thirteenth meeting of the United Nations Open-ended Informal Consultative Process on Oceans and the Law of the Sea which focused on the topic entitled “Marine renewable energies”. Researcher Xia Dengwen as a special guest of the developing countries to attend the meeting, and gave a report of “Opportunities and Challenges for China's development of marine renewable energy ", introduced China’s national offshore renewable energy strategy, policy, management mechanism, financial support and experience, and proposed to establish an International marine energy framework under U.N. framework.

  • Attend Annex IV “The Exchange and Assessment of Ocean Energy Device Project Information and Experience”

    IEA OES Annex task “The Exchange and Assessment of Ocean Energy Device Project Information and Experience” was held on October 15th to 16th,2012 in Dublin. The theme of the meeting is to exchange the information and experience of the ocean energy test plant, within a total of 14 countries 37 experts. Representative of our Center as a member of the working group attended this meeting and participated the communication and discussion of the business model, operating experience and recommendations in marine energy test sites with the United States, Belgium, Portugal, Denmark, Spain, Ireland and other countries, summed up the international status quo with successful experience in the field of ocean energy test plants.

  • ICOE2012

    On October 15th-21th 2012, deputy director Xia Dengwen and other two representatives participated in the Fourth International Ocean Energy Conference (ICOE2012) in Ireland, the conference was organized by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland with more than 700 participants. Deputy director Xia Dengwen had given a report entitled "China’s National Offshore Renewable Energy Development Initiative” detailed in marine renewable energy development and utilization policy, technology research and development, as well as demonstration application progress, and showed stage results achieved in the field of marine energy and the future of the strategic plan. During the meeting, the organization party gathered international ocean energy development & utilization enterprises, universities and research centers as well other agencies to carry out the relevant exhibition promotion and business tour of representatives to fieldwork SeaGen sea demonstration and OpenHydro assembly plant.
